April 20, 2008: Construction Update

Construction of the Union Station project has not yet begun. However, shown below is the anticipated schedule leading up to the start of construction:

  • April 2008: 15% Design Review and 30% Design Contract Negotiations

  • May 2008 – August 2008: 30% Design

  • November 2008: Start Final Design and Construction

The first transportation element to be constructed is the relocation of the light rail station to the foot of 17th Street near the Consolidated Main Line tracks. The new light rail station, as well as a temporary Mall Shuttle extension/stop to the new station, will be complete by Fall 2009. The first vertical development element to be constructed is the South Wing building near 16th and Wynkoop, which would begin construction January 2009 and be completed in July 2010. The North Wing building near 18th and Wynkoop would begin construction January 2010 and be completed in July 2011. In conjunction with the construction of the two Wing buildings, the public space along Wynkoop Street will also be built.
